Robotic Assembly and Contact Force Control

چکیده

Modern industrial robots are traditionally programmed to follow desired trajectories, with the only feedback coming from the internal position/angle sensors in the joints. The robots are in general very accurate in tracking the desired motion, and they have become indispensable in many applications, such as spot welding and painting in the automotive industry. In more complex tasks, such as physical interaction with the environment, position control of the robot might be insufficient due to the fact that it is hard, or too costly, to achieve an environment that is structured enough. This is due to inherent uncertainties, such as part variations and inexact gripping. One example of a challenging application is assembly, which is hard to accomplish using only position controlled robots. By adding a force sensor to the system, it gives the robot ability to correct for uncertainties by measuring contacts. This thesis presents a framework for force controlled robotic assembly. Assembly tasks are specified as sequences of constrained motions, where transitions are triggered by sensor events, coming either from thresholds or from more advanced classifiers. The framework is also able to explicitly deal with uncertainties, which can be estimated during execution to improve the performance. Further, a method for adaptation of force control parameters is presented, and how a singularity-free orientation representation can be used within the assembly framework. The case when no force sensor is available is also considered, and a method for estimating the external forces based on the joint control errors is presented. All methods presented are validated in experiments.

Finite Element Simulation of Contact Mechanics of Cancer Cells in Manipulation Based on Atomic Force Microscopy

The theory of contact mechanics deals with stresses and deformations which arise when the surfaces of two solid bodies are brought into contact. In elastic deformation contact occurs over a finite area. A regular method for determining the dimensions of this area is Hertz Contact Model. Appearance of atomic force microscope results in introduction of Contact ...

Modeling of Air Relative Humidity Effect on Adhesion Force in Manipulation of Nano-Particles and its Application in AFM

In this paper, the effect of air relative humidity and capillary force on contact geometry of surfaces based on JKR model by Atomic force microscopy was investigated in order to manipulate nano-particles. With transition from macro to nano-scale, the effect of surface forces becomes more significant in comparison with inertial force. Because contact mechanics models are based on surface energy ...

Adaptation of Force Control Parameters in Robotic Assembly

Industrial robots are usually programmed to follow desired trajectories, and are very good at position-controlled tasks. New applications, however, often require physical contact between the robot and its environment, and then the position control accuracy is generally not sufficient. Force control is a suitable alternative. The environment is often stiff, and then it is crucial to design appro...

Contact Stiffness and Damping Estimation for Robotic Systems

In this paper, we review and compare four algorithms for the identification of contact stiffness and damping during robot constrained motion. The intended application is dynamics modeling and simulation of robotic assembly operations in space. Accurate simulation of these tasks requires contact dynamics models, which in turn use contact stiffness and damping to calculate contact forces. Hence, ...

Motion Planning by Integration of Multiple Policies for Complex Assembly Tasks

Robotic assembly has been an active area of manipulation research for several decades. However, almost all assembly tasks, especially complex ones, still need to be performed manually in industrial manufacturing. The difficulty in planning appropriate motion is a major hurdle to robotic assembly. In assembly tasks, manipulated objects come into contact with the environment. Thus, force control ...
